Samsung Supercharges Bixby with Generative AI for Smarter Smart Homes

Samsung is poised to revolutionize smart homes by rejuvenating its AI-powered voice assistant, Bixby, through the integration of generative AI. Unveiled during the recent IFA 2023 press conference, this upgrade will infuse advanced generative AI capabilities into Bixby, setting a new standard for smart home appliances.

Generative AI, well-known through tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E, equips systems with the ability to comprehend intricate sentences and deliver multifaceted responses. Unlike its predecessors, the enhanced Bixby will excel at deciphering complex sentences with multiple meanings.

Initially, the upgraded Bixby will make its debut on Samsung’s smartphones and tablets. Miyoung Yoo, VP of Samsung Electronics Home Appliances Division, envisions a future where smart home appliances go beyond their basic functions, offering tailor-made operations based on user behaviors and preferences.

This transformation will position smart homes as hubs of intelligence and convenience, where appliances understand and cater to users’ needs, forging a truly connected and personalized living environment. It’s worth noting that while Bixby’s capabilities will expand significantly, it will not compete directly with heavyweight AI services like ChatGPT or Google Bard.

As Samsung continues to innovate, further details about Bixby’s evolution, Tizen, and Tizen RT integration may be unveiled during the Samsung Developer Conference 2023 event on October 5, 2023.
